A trend I've noticed in recent years is an increasing desire among those on the darkweb to interact over a platform that provides quicker exchange of information. As time goes on, it becomes even more pronounced and it has me wondering what is going on.
There have always been chats. For many people my age, they may have bumped into child pornography for the first time via some ancient chat platform. But to me, they've always been a sideshow; little distraction from the meat and potatoes of on topic interaction; which for me back then was downloading CP videos. I got quite used to a sort of forum-based platform to get this material and that translated well into hanging out at place like PSC. You log in, check to see what's new, maybe reply to a few things, then take what you acquired offline to view.
I feel a culture shift going on however. I don't want to generalize, but I suspect it stems from people who are younger than me that are used to a much more instantaneous exchange in other areas of their online life and come to expect the same even when the topic is pedophilia. All you 20-somethings have lived with screens as you came of age far beyond anything I did and I just feel this enthusiasm for rapid responses. In of itself, it's no big deal; people are free to do what they want. It does, however, trigger an alarm in my head, because as I learned about being safe on the darkweb, more speed = less safe. If something is happening faster, then either there is something inherent to the connection that is riskier, or (and I think this is the more important angle here) there is less time to speak faster than we can think.
I am personally leery about getting involved in some sort of chat ecosystem because there is less time think about what one writes and that increases the chance that one will blurt out something potentially identifying. Perhaps that's not an issue for those who grew up being extremely cognizant about over-sharing in other online worlds, but it was an early security check that I became familiar with.
I guess I'm looking for opinions on why a chat-based platform is more appealing than something like we have here. I'm a living fossil in darkweb internet years, so it's not in my comfort zone, thus I'd appreciate any insights.
